I painted my engine and radiator covers with Dupli~Color Mirage green to purple color change paint. Depending how the light hits the paint, it changes in colors ranging from green to blue to sometimes copper and the color that shows most is purple (which is my favorite). There are other parts that are going to sport the color change look as well as some color change multistripe pinstriping that I have that are the same color combination as the paint. I intend to start a "BUILD" thread one of these days to show off the personalization of my Dart so far but for right now..............

I just wanted to give the promised update after my 130 mile round trip to see a WWE event in Savannah. After my trip, which included a large portion of interstate driving, the paint does not appear to have suffered any Ill effects from the extended heat of the engine. I don't see any bubbling, peeling or flaking, and it still has its color change properties.

The Mirage system is a 3 part process that comes with 3 cans; a black primer base coat, the colored paint and a clear top coat. To prep it I just cleaned it off with an alcohol soaked paper towel. I let it dry and started painting. Base Coat, Color, Clear: making sure to give it time to bake in the sun to dry before I went on to the next step. This is paint I have had for 7 or 8 years that I had painted some on my 93 Taurus Wagon just going to waste, I know that it may not survive the heat of the engine, but it will only be seen when the hood is up anyway.

JUST A QUICK UPDATE: This morning I went out to run some errands in the Dart with the engine cover on. I was gone a few hours. Came home ate lunch and watched a movie then read the above posts, then went outside after the car sat for approximately 2 hours to check on the condition of the engine cover and it seemed fine. There was no bubbling or peeling, the paint wasn't tacky feeling to the touch. Maybe it'll be fine

I am going to be going to a live WWE event on Sunday in Savannah, which is over an hour drive up and then an hour back at interstate speeds. So this will give me a better indication of how the paint job will perform overall.

I wanted to attach some pictures to show the painting that I did on my Taurus wagon with the color change Duplicolor, along with the color change multistriping pinstripes. Please don't pay attention to the wheel covers - they were a huge mistake that I eventually rectified and replaced the 14in steel wheels with some 15in rims and tires from a 1996 Taurus.

The first picture in the series is the stock picture without modifications.

What I am doing today, Pt. 2

I didn't like the black fascia piece on the rear bumper, so I am painting it Brilliant Silver Dupli-Color to match as closely as possible my body color. It won't be an exact match because I used gray primer , but the silver is a little darker on the body so maybe it has a black undercoating, IDK. But it will still look better than the black IMO

Nice work; too bad it won't be seeing a whole hell of a lot of daylight. o_O

The rear valance could've been done with just a touch a blue added to it. Hard to replicate factory colors though. That said, you could probably order a rattlecan or two from your dealer as 'touch up paint'.
